Kisii County Government department of Youth, Sports, Culture, Arts and Social Services has received a donation of 13 wheelchairs and 40 blankets from Mwanyagetinge Care and Support Group to support the physically challenged people in Kisii County.
This donation was done in partnership with other local and international non-governmental organisations which came together to assist the Kisii County Government in addressing the plight of the special needs groups in the county.
While receiving the items, the County Executive Committee (CEC) member Dr. Timothy Arege thanked the organization for the kind gesture and assured them of fostering their working relationship for the good of the people Kisii County.
“We as a county are grateful for the donations that we have received. They will be of great help to our people who are in dire need of these items for their mobility to fend for themselves,” said Dr. Arege.
He expressed the commitment by the County Government to ensure that the interests of all persons living with disabilities are well catered for and called for continued cooperation by stakeholders.
“There are cases where caregivers are forced to carry their loved ones to seek services in far flank facilities and therefore, there is need for these interventions,” he noted.
On her part, Magdaline Mwebi the director of Mwanyagetinge Care and Support Group committed to even do more to the people living with disability (PLWD) by sourcing such items from well-wishers across the world to the benefit of the community.
She said “I am already engaging other local and international well-wishers to do more in availing these items and even offer other forms of support systems like organizing medical camps and symposiums for the PLWDs and other vulnerable groups in our society.”
Paul Ochora, Assistant Director People Living with disability (PLWDs),indicated that the County Government undertook an assessment of the PLWDs in all the nine sub-counties, for identification of the persons with mobility challenges for assistance.
