The international development organization SNV is set to launch its flagship initiative, the Power for Food Partnership, in Kenya soon. The program aims to lead the transition toward regenerative, resilient and inclusive agri-food systems by harnessing the combined potential of Regenerative Agriculture (RA) and the Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE).
Today, Geoffrey Rono, the Leverage Pathway Lead for SNV’s Power for Food Partnership in Kenya, led a delegation to Kisii County, where they were received by the County Secretary Earnest Osoro. During the visit, Rono affirmed that the program will work closely with counties to align agricultural transformation efforts with improved access to clean energy.
“We are fully committed to strengthening capacities and building partnerships that integrate sustainable practices into Kenya’s food and energy systems,” Rono said adding that the program aims to deliver lasting change by connecting regenerative agriculture with renewable energy solutions.
The initiative, funded by the IKEA Foundation, is part of a larger regional program being implemented in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Ethiopia.
Discussions during the Kisii county visit focused on opportunities for strategic collaboration and the county’s readiness to support local implementation.
"Governor Paul Simba Arati supports this initiative as it aligns perfectly with his vision for sustainable agriculture and clean energy adoption. The Governor has a strong vision for empowering farmers in the region, and the program is set to unlock new opportunities for both farmers and agri-entrepreneurs in Kisii," said the County Secretary.
Once launched, the Power for Food Partnership will prioritize policy engagement, investment mobilization, and capacity building through its Leverage Pathway, with the goal of scaling up proven practices and innovations nationwide.
The upcoming launch represents a major milestone in advancing climate-smart agriculture and expanding the use of renewable energy in Kenya’s rural communities.
Also present during the meeting were CEC in charge of Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Cyrus Nyabicha, Isaiah Akenga, Kisii County Director of Communication, Danson Ligare, Regional Climate Change Coordinator at the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) and coordinator of the LREB Regional Climate Change and Agri Expo and Paul Ogweno from the Kakamega County Economic Planning Department.
