Kisii County Government has set aside 25 million to cater for the needs of Persons with Disability.

Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said the government has presented a bill before the County Assembly that will operationalize the disbursement of the money.

Speaking at the Kisii Cultural Hall when he donated spectacles to children living with albinism from the nine sub counties, Maangi urged the society to accommodate the children and offer them support.

“Children living with albinism should be given support. The fact that disability issues are a function of the national government makes it difficult for the county government to directly engage with persons with disabilities but the county government has deliberately decided to take up the issue,” he said.

The deputy governor promised to hold a meeting with the Speaker of the County Assembly Kerosi Ondieki to fast track the law that will operationalize the funds release.

Culture, sports and youth Executive Committee member Moiro Omari said the government will work closely with the children and all persons living with albinism and fully integrate them in society.

In 2014 the government started the persons living with albinism registration exercise which is aimed at identifying them to support their needs.
