Kisii County leaders pledges unity

Kisii County leaders have asked critics to give them time to implement the development agenda and avoid politics until 2017.

Senators Chris Obure, Janet Ong’era and Governor James Ongwae warned against disruptive politics would not benefit residents of Kisii County as it was likely to distract leaders from their work.

Speaking at Mokomoni SDA Church in Bomachoge Borabu Sub County during a service, the leaders said this was not the right time to judge the performance of the County Government.

“In leadership, you need time to deliver. The County Government is breaking new ground in implementation of development projects so let us give them time to deliver. Let’s not be quick to judge as it will be akin to marking exams for a student while the exam is on-going and we have agreed 2015 will be a year of action,” said Obure.

Senator Ong’era echoed Obure’s sentiments and urged residents to support the Governor in his work. “We are working closely with the County Government to promote women empowerment. My desire is to seem women form cooperatives and venture into value addition for increased returns,” said Ong’era.

Governor Ongwae said his Government was working towards improving healthcare services, rehabilitating markets through street lighting and sheds, construction of access roads as well as water reticulation.

Magenche Ward Representative Timothy Ogugu lauded the County Government’s efforts in development but asked for more road projects to ease access.

Governor Ongwae promised to open access roads in Magenche ward which lagged behind since independence adding that his Government will address water reticulation, erect solar street lights at Magenche and Mariba markets, and improve health facilities in the area in the current financial year.

Ongwae reiterated that he was closely working with all elected leaders in the county for purposes of development. Earlier on, the Governor led local leaders in raising funds at Nubia Mosque in Kitutu Central Ward. He was flanked by Senator Ong’era and several MCAs.

He announced plans by his Government to erect solar street lights at Nubia to supplement the existing high mast light popularly known as Mulika Mwizi. Other projects include water reticulation and access roads.
