Renovation work at the Suneka Airstrip in Bonchari Sub-county has begun in earnest. The first phase of the renovation will involve the construction of a parameter wall, parking ,an administration block and a passenger lounge.Upon completion of this phase, the airstrip is expected to boost tourism and business not only within Kisii County but also to the neighboring counties.The first phase will cost kshs. 52M and will be completed in the next 9 months.

Speaking during a site visit by the CEC Roads, Public Works and Transport, Hon Skitta Ocharo called on the local leadership to sensitize the community on the importance of the airstrip.The Minister said the County Government will improve the road leading to the airstrip adding that the second phase will entail expansion of the airstrip to cater for commercial airplanes.
