Former Harambee Stars International striker Henry Motego has been hired by the Kisii County Government as a football coach.
Governor Ongwae said Motego had been tasked to spearhead efforts to identify and nurture talent as well as coordinate football activities at school and club level.
“I am grateful to Governor James Ongwae for giving me this chance to oversee the revival of soccer in Kisii. I will do my best to ensure we regain our lost glory as a county in football,” said an elated 48 year old Motego. The County Government will soon stage a football bonanza bringing together teams from all Sub Counties with the finals being held at the Gusii Stadium.
About Henry Motego
Born at Igare in Bobasi Sub County – Kisii County After his primary education at Boitangare primary, Motego later joined Cardinal Otunga 1983-1984 (form 1 form 2). He did his form 3 & 4 at Itierio High school.
Played for the following Clubs:
• Shabana FC – 1983 – 1988
• Kenya Breweries now Tusker FC – 1989-2005 and later coached the same team in their KPL title winning season of 2004-2005.
• Al Oruba FC – Oman (1991 – 1992)
• Harambee Stars – 1986-1992.
His contemporaries included J.J Masiga, Bobby Ogolla, the late Sammy Onyango Jogoo, Elijah Onsika, Mike Okoth, Richard Otambo, Salim Mabruk, Ambrose Ayoyi the late Henry Nyandoro, Vincent Abuga among others.
