Calm has returned to the troubled Kisii-Trans Mara border. This follows a joint peace meeting convened by Governors James Ongwae (Kisii) and Samwel Tunai (Narok) at Kiango market along the border.
Over the past few days, the area has experienced skirmishes sparked by a cattle theft incident. Several area leaders including Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Kisii County Assembly Speaker Kerosi Ondieki, MPs Joel Onyancha( Bomachoge Borabu), Gideon Konchella (Kilgoris) and Narok Women Rep Soipan Tuya, 13 MCAs drawn from both Counties and other leaders were in attendance.
A number of resolutions were made at the meeting, among them the need to have an economic zone that will see the two Governors sign a Memorandum of Understanding. Various leaders also called on both communities to embrace brotherhood and peaceful co-existence for the good of them and future generations.
It was also agreed that criminals should be dealt with as individuals and not as communities and that there should be no cattle rustling. In the event of theft, due process should be followed when tracking stolen animals and other properties.
