Her Excellency the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta today, 25th November 2014, launched the 13th Mobile Clinic at the Kisii High School Grounds. While addressing Kisii County residents, the first lady noted that advancements in the medical field have made it possible to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV. She further indicated that the clinic will be used to deliver essential health services such as vaccination, antenatal care, treatment of sick children and parents, HIV testing and treatment.
She further commended the Kisii County Government leadership for allocating 1/3 of its budget towards health services, employing more health workers and launching ambulatory services which have drastically reduced maternal and child mortality rate.
Governor James Ongwae lamented that statistics from health sector indicate that the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in the county stands at 46/1000 live births meaning, 46 out of every 1000 infants born in Kisii County die before their first birthday.
He also observed that Maternal Mortality Rate stands at 88/100,000 live births meaning 88 out of 100,000 women in Kisii die out of maternity related complications every year.
The Governor thanked the First Lady for the clinic saying it will complement county efforts in reducing maternal and child mortality rates.
