Kisii Governor Simba Arati has officially launched the Kazi Mashinani Initiative, a countywide programme aimed at creating employment opportunities for residents while supporting the delivery of essential services and improving the cleanliness of urban centres.
The initiative, launched in Nyamarambe, South Mugirango, will benefit up to 2,000 residents every month, providing short-term employment opportunities to households across the county.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Arati said the programme is designed to take employment opportunities closer to residents and ensure that the benefits of the county government’s development agenda are felt at the grassroots.
“Kazi Mashinani is about taking employment opportunities closer to our people. We want ordinary households to benefit directly from the work being undertaken in their communities,” he said.
Under the programme, 30 residents from each of Kisii County’s 45 wards will be engaged every month on a rotational basis. An additional 350 workers will be deployed within the Kisii Central Business District (CBD) to undertake various activities.
The rotational model is intended to ensure that the programme reaches a wider section of the population, allowing more households to benefit from the employment opportunities over time.
Governor Arati said the county had deliberately adopted the rotational approach to prevent the benefits of the initiative from being concentrated among a small group of residents.
“We do not want the same people to benefit every month. Through the rotational system, we will give more residents an opportunity to work, earn an income and support their families,” noted the Governor.
Beyond creating employment, the initiative will contribute to the maintenance of clean, vibrant and well-managed urban centres, while providing residents with an opportunity to actively participate in improving their communities.
The Governor urged beneficiaries to embrace the opportunity and demonstrate commitment and responsibility in the work assigned to them.
“This is more than just a job. It is an opportunity for our people to earn, dignify their livelihoods and take part in building a better Kisii,” indicated the Governor.
The Kazi Mashinani Initiative is part of the County Government’s efforts to expand economic opportunities at the grassroots, support household incomes and ensure that more residents directly benefit from county programmes.
Through the initiative, the County Government is taking jobs closer to the people, opening up opportunities at the grassroots and widening the reach of development across Kisii County.
