Gov Simba Inaugurates the Kisii County Bursary Board

The Kisii County Bursary fund has been relaunched after it was suspended for three years by the previous administration.

Governor Simba Arati today inaugurated the Kisii County Bursary Board with clear instructions to consider only needy secondary school students across the county.

A total of Ksh. 135 million will be issued in this financial year and each ward is set to receive Ksh. 3 million.

“My administration is committed to ensuring the resumption of the school bursary fund to enable students from needy background access education. I gave the people of Kisii County this promise and I will personally ensure that only genuine beneficiaries are helped,” said Simba.

The Governor regretted that the fund was suspended for a period of three years by the former regime and the monies channeled to another department.

“On Tuesday next week, parents in South Mugirango, Bomachoge Borabu, Bomachoge Chache, Bonchari and Bobasi constituencies will pick the forms from their respective ward offices while on Wednesday, the forms will be issued in Nyaribari Masaba, Nyaribari Chache, Kitutu Chache South and Kitutu Chache North constituencies in an exercise that will be supervised by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs),” announced the Governor.

He said Chiefs, Sub Chiefs and all the 45 Ward Administrators will be present to ensure only needy cases are prioritized.

“My office has put in place measures to ensure a strict selection criterion, devoid of corruption and only the needy cases are considered, in an open, transparent and fair manner, where the public will also give input and feedback accordingly,” he noted.

He assured residents of Kisii county that his office is keen on facilitating a good education foundation for learners.

“The bursary fund was last administered three years ago and having evaluated the suffering the parents undergo in affording school fees for their children, we have decided to resume the fund to help cushion the needy students,” he said.

Beneficiaries will be picked based on the wards their parents are registered as voters, among other set criteria. Parents or guardians will be required to present their original and photocopies of identity cards and the students’ birth certificates.
