Kisii Leaders agree on the County's Development Agenda

Kisii leaders held a meeting in Nairobi to discuss the Kisii development agenda and develop a unity of purpose in order to serve the electorate effectively.

Among those in attendance were the Kisii County Governor, H.E James Ongwae, his deputy H.E Joash Maangi, his entire cabinet (10 Executive Committee Members-ECM’s), the Chairman of the County Public Service Board-David Kombo, Senators Chris Obure and Janet Ongera. MPs who attended the meeting include: Manson Nyamweya (South Mugirango), Simon Ogari (Bomachoge Chache), Elijah Moindi (Nyaribari Masaba), Oroo Oyioka (Bonchari), Stephen Manoti (Bobasi). The Kisii County Women MP who is on a trip abroad sent apologies.

The Governor shared his county integrated development blueprint with the leaders. The leaders agreed to work together in identifying and prioritizing county development projects. Among the areas highlighted are infrastructure development (roads, waste management, street lighting, Suneka Airstrip), water supply and sanitation services, improvement of education, attracting investors (sugar, soapstone and horticulture processing factories), value addition for coffee and tea, creation of job opportunities for youth and women empowerment, environmental conservation and repossession of grabbed land.

The leaders agreed to work together for the good of Kisii County. The leaders agreed to meet and consult regularly on development matters. They further agreed that various leadership positions and office holders should be recognized and respected.

The MPs agreed to work closely with the Governor and cooperate in project implementation to eliminate duplication of development projects funded by the County Government and Constituency Development Funds (CDF). They also requested the Governor to organize and clean Kisii town, and also ensure installation of street lights.
