The Kisii County Government has revised its budget. This is in a bid to address key issues with regard to budget deviations prompted by budget cuts and support from development partners.
The County assembly approved the amendment to the appropriation bill 2018 to enable the County Government reorganize its allocations.
Governor James Ongwae said the County Government was forced to adjust its KShs11.9 billion budget to factor in the receipt of a World Bank Grant of KShs126 million towards the Kenya Devolution Support Program (KDSP), enhanced salaries to medical practitioners and the need to clear pending bills following a directive to all County Governments by the President.
He said the review of the budget was also driven by the need to factor in a grant to the Agricultural Sector Development support program by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
The adjustments will see the operationalization of Smallholder Horticulture Marketing Programme (ShoMap) markets following an increased allocation of KShs 3 million, while funds towards Artificial insemination program was increased by KShs10 million.
Under Energy and Natural Resources, the construction of people’s park got a boost in the revised budget. The County assembly unanimously approved the adjustments allowing the County Government align its budget to priority areas.
