County partners with hair beauty products firm to refurbish vocational training centers

The Kisii County government has partnered with a beauty products manufacturer to enhance training in hairdressing at Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).

Style Industries, manufacturer of high quality hair additions, refurbished hairdressing workshops at Nyaore and Keumbu Vocational Training Centres in Kisii County.

The workshops were refurbished and converted into mini-salons and fitted with state of the art hairdressing equipment. County Attorney Kennedy Onsembe and the company’s Legal Services Head, Gladus Oluoch, signed the agreement.

Each of the training centers will take in 40 students in every three months. The curriculum entails theory, practical, entrepreneurship skills, communication skills, life skills and financial literacy skills.

Speaking during the opening of the salon at Nyaore Vocational Centre, Oluoch said the beauty company will provide a three-month curriculum for the courses.

"Apart from the modern beauty and hair dressing equipment that we have installed, we have also made an in-house curriculum that will be adhered to so that learners get the desired and relevant skills," Oluoch said.

"Through this partnership, we will build capacity so that beneficiaries can become employable or create employment for themselves and others," he said.

County CEC in charge of Education Skitter Ocharo welcomed the partnership, saying it will go a long way in supplementing efforts by the devolved unit to empower the youth.

"We welcome the Public-Private Partnership and pledge our support towards the actualization of this program," Dr Ocharo said.

She noted that the demand for the Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy course was high, going by the number of applicants the two institutions received.

"Nyaore alone received a hundred applications, yet it can only take 40 at a time. We hope this partnership will improve the fortunes of the beneficiaries," Dr Ocharo said.

She encouraged students in secondary schools, vocation centers and colleges to take advantage of the County Bursary in their pursuit for education.
