Counties and national government to partner for improved healthcare

The National Government is working with health partners to ensure better healthcare system in the country.

Speaking in Kisii during the inaugural Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) Health Conference, Cabinet Secretary in charge of Health Dr. Cleopa Maillu said the national government is sourcing for funding to meet health needs across the counties that require the attention of the government.

Dr. Maillu noted that the introduction of the devolved system of government has led to remarkable economic and social transformation in all counties adding that it has led to equitable distribution of resources and development in areas that were previously left behind.

More than 3,000 delegates are attending the two days conference that brings together key actors and stakeholders in a forum to discuss various perspectives in policy formulation and investment in the health sector in the Lake basin region.

Governors Jack Ranguma who chairs the LREB health pillar thanked the initiators of the forum saying the region has come along way grappling with challenges in the health sector such as limited health facilities, inadequate human resource and high HIV and malarial prevalence rate.

Dr. Maillu commended the leadership of the 13 counties and organizers of the forum and challenged other regions to emulate in order to harness the collective experience of each to improve the delivery of healthcare to citizen.

Governors Jack Ranguma (Kisumu), John Nyagarama (Nyamira) deputy governors Prof. Philip Kutima (Kakamega), Secretary General Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) Oluga Ouma were among other top officers who attended the conference.
