Newly elected Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Nyacheki ward Naftal Nyaberi Onkoba was sworn in on Thursday a month after he was elected in a hotly contested by-election.
Onkoba took the oath of office before Assembly Speaker Hon. Kerosi Ondieki in a solemn occasion attended by Governor James Ongwae.
Governor Ongwae joined other MCAs in congratulating Onkoba for his election and wishing him well in his new career.
Ongwae thanked the people of Nyacheki ward for electing the MCA on an ODM ticket and vowed to work closely with him to ensure that he fulfills pledges made during the campaign period.
“It was a grueling election but I sincerely thank the people of Nyacheki for refusing to accept bribes from other parties and chose to vote with their hearts,” said the Governor.
Several MCAs led by leader of Majority Protus Moindi welcomed Onkoba to the assembly and thanked the people of Nyacheki for overwhelmingly voting for him.
Ongwae said the County Executive would closely work with the Assembly especially in the budget preparation process given that the budget cycle has changed and will be read in March.
During the October 26th by- election, the ODM candidate garnered a total of 2216 votes ahead of Maxwel Magoma of Jubilee who obtained 1173 votes.
