Kisii Governor Hon. James Ongwae yesterday held talks with the Minnesota State Fire Department on partnerships in emergency response and disaster preparedness.
The Governor is in Minnesota in a follow up visit to firm up agreements reached on fire safety training and equipment last year.
He is negotiating for the establishment of a disaster management academy in Kisii County as one of the steps to implement a robust emergency preparedness and response system.
In December last year, fire and emergency handling experts from the Minnesota State Fire Department led by Commander Kenneth Prillaman were in Kisii County to train personnel on modern fire safety techniques.
The experts donated 18 complete sets of fire fighting gear including booths, smoke detectors and rescue ropes among other equipment. During the visit, the experts committed to donate additional fire fighting equipment.
During the visit, the Governor was taken through modern disaster control Centre and shown state of the art fire engines. The County Government has set aside funds for the purchase of a modern fire engine to boost its capacity to mitigate fire outbreaks.
