Governor reaches out to Russian investors to boost investment in the county

Kisii County Governor James Ongwae is engaging with Russian investors in a bid to woo partnership and development in the industry, health and ICT sectors in the county.

The Governor who is attending the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum held an elaborate meeting with key stakeholders in health and industry in the Russian Federation.

Ongwae is on a five day visit to Russia with an itinerary including engagements with the Russian Export Centre, Russia Public Organisation Delovaya Rossiya, the Scientific Production Association and the National Medicine Research Centre.

The governor also met the Republic of Belarus Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko over possible Belarian investment opportunities in county.

The meeting with the Belarus Ambassador opened doors of engagement with the Belarus business community who have expressed keen interest to invest in value addition in the Kisii agriculture produce including coffee and fruits.

The Governor’s Official Visit to the Russian Federation is poised to expand the county donor and investor base with a view to strengthening areas of intervention for enhanced service delivery to residents.

“I held a round table discussion with a number of Russian Companies dealing with Telemedical technology and the aim is to invite them to invest in our county in the area of medical and health services”, the Governor said.

He also added that through the engagement, the Russian National Medical Research Centre will help the county medical personnel to get updated in obstetrics, gynaecology & perinatology through simulation and training by experts in Russian medical Training centres.

The Governor’s visit to the Russian Export Centre, has enabled him to meet leading companies in development of ICT solutions like ‘Electronic Government’ and ‘Smart City’ inc.

In his five-day itinerary, the Governor also meets the Rusian Republic organization (Delovaya Rossiya) for a roundtable with development institutions, Russian entrepreneurs interested in the Kenyan market as well as representatives of the Ministry of Economic development of the Russian Federation.

To buttress the engagement with the foreign investors, the governor is in the company of Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, Lake Region Economic Bloc Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya,Governor Kakamega, governors Cornel Rasanga (Siaya),and Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia).

The Governor’s visit to Russia will enable Kisii county to enjoy and reap benefits of devolution when the discussions of the roundtable meeting with Russian Entrepreneurs interested in the Kenyan Market especially in the fields of Health, Water Environment and Climate Change, Agriculture, education and Human Development bear fruits.

Health has been key priority for the Kisii County government and the sector stands to benefit the most out of this new found partnership with investors in Russia, as the governor purposes to meet specialists in the Russian health sector to benchmark on Telemedical technology.

The Russian intervention will also help our medical personnel improve on the professional development of primary, and secondary medical care for pregnant mothers and New-borns.
