The Kisii County Government has started gravelling County Access roads in all the 45 wards.
The project under the Mechanical Transport Fund (MTF) is targeting more than 531 kilometers of road spread across the County.
According to the County Chief officer in charge of Roads Cosmas Osoro Okondo, the programme which involves gravelling and drainage works will be done in two phases.
“The works started this week and I am glad that we are making progress. We started with Boochi Borabu, Bomariba, Bomorenda, Kiogoro, Boikanga, Marani, Monyerero and Bogeka wards and by Friday this week, we will be done in five of the eight wards,” said Okondo.
Linet Moraa, a resident in Bogeka ward expressed excitement after works started on the 6.1 kilometer Nyaore-Ititi-Gesoni-St. Mary’s Mosocho-Sakawa Primary-Omogumo that passes her home saying it will help the village access services with ease.
“All along, I have been thinking that this is a forgotten area until today when I saw graders at work. The new road will improve our lives especially for mothers and children in need of medical services,” she said.
Area Member of County Assembly Charles Nyagoto said the programme will help traders and farmers transport farm produce to the market adding that it will address transport challenges experienced in some remote parts across the county.
